The Trump campaign has requested additional security measures similar to those provided to a sitting president due to increased threats against former President Donald Trump’s life. The campaign asked for military assets, armored cars, protection while flying, temporary airspace restrictions, and special forces service members for protection. Trump has faced alleged assassination attempts in recent months and has been briefed on threats from Iran. The campaign has used evasive maneuvers and is trying to be less predictable. Despite the requests for enhanced security measures, the Secret Service has stated that Trump is receiving the highest level of protection and that additional military assets may violate federal law. The Department of Defense regularly provides aid for Trump’s protection, including explosive ordnance disposal, canine units, and airlift transportation. The Pentagon has approved increased support for candidates, overseen by U.S. Northern Command, which includes providing explosive experts, technicians, and assistance with communications and transportation. The Secret Service has also implemented temporary flight restrictions, unmanned aerial vehicles, counter unmanned aerial surveillance systems, and other advanced technology systems to ensure Trump’s safety. Overall, the campaign’s requests for additional security measures have not yet been met despite ongoing threats against Trump’s life.
