Maria Branyas Morera, the oldest person in the world at 117 years old, has passed away. She was born in San Francisco in 1907 and lived through two world wars and two pandemics. She attributed her longevity to luck and good genetics. Despite being diagnosed with Covid in 2020, she recovered and shared her experiences of loneliness during that time. In her final days, she reflected on her life and expressed her acceptance of death with a sense of peace. Branyas Morera was confirmed as the oldest living woman and person in the world in January 2023. She passed away in a nursing home in Catalonia, where she had lived for over 20 years. With her death, Tomiko Itooka of Japan now holds the title of the oldest living person at 116 years old. Branyas Morera will be remembered for her wisdom, kindness, and positive outlook on life.
