Neil Irvine, the town administrator of Northwood, N.H., is facing serious felony charges, including attempted second-degree murder, after allegedly trying to suffocate his former wife. Irvine, 60, was arrested by the Belknap County Sheriff’s Department on four felony charges related to an incident on Sept. 24, 2022. He is accused of getting on top of his former wife and attempting to cover her nose and mouth with his hands and a pillow.
Irvine’s attorney has stated that he is pleading not guilty to the charges. Despite the seriousness of the accusations, the attorney emphasized that Irvine is a respected member of the community, serving as the former chairman for New Hampshire Fire Standards and Training, the town administrator of Northwood, and a member of the board of directors of the New Hampshire Municipal Association.
After posting $5,000 bail, Irvine has returned to work at Northwood Town Hall. News 9 reached out to the Northwood Select Board for comment but has not received a response.
The case highlights the complexities of domestic violence allegations and the potential for high-profile individuals to face serious legal consequences. As the legal process unfolds, the community will be watching closely to see how justice is served in this troubling situation.
