Cornell Women’s Polo Team Secures Division II National Championship Title

After a heartbreaking loss in the Division II Women’s National Intercollegiate Championship game last year, the Cornell women’s polo team came back strong this season. The team secured its first-ever Division II National champions title with a spectacular performance in the final match against the University of New Hampshire.

Led by senior Ava Ramachandran and junior Lara Chong, the team dominated the game, scoring a total of 10 points. Freshman Naomi Marlough also made a significant contribution with four goals.

This season was particularly meaningful for Ramachandran, as it marked her final collegiate season and a return from a wrist injury earlier in the year. The team finished with a record of 15-5, including a five-game win streak to clinch the championship.

Ramachandran was honored with the Women’s Sportsmanship Award, while Chong and Marlough were named National All-Stars. Looking ahead, the team is focused on defending their title and aiming for victories at regionals and nationals in the upcoming season.

The victory was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team, as well as the support from their coaches, crew, teammates, and horses. The Cornell women’s polo team is poised for continued success in the future seasons.
