Wendy Williams criticizes guardianship in ‘The View’ interview

Former talk show host Wendy Williams spoke out against her court-appointed guardianship during an interview on “The View.” She denied being cognitively impaired and expressed frustration over being kept in a memory unit at an assisted living facility. Williams criticized her guardian and the judge who ordered the guardianship, stating that she wants to move on with her life and terminate the guardianship immediately.

Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, had filed a memo last year claiming that Williams was cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated due to a diagnosis of early-onset dementia. Williams revealed that she initially believed the guardianship was meant to assist her with managing her money but claimed it escalated to unwarranted control over her movements and personal life.

Williams insisted that she is not cognitively impaired as alleged by her guardian, pointing to her diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. She expressed feeling like she is being kept in a prison and having limited contact with her family.

Recently, there was an incident where Williams’ niece took her out of the assisted living facility without staff knowing, prompting concern for her safety and well-being. Williams mentioned feeling trapped in her unit on the memory floor and needing staff assistance to leave.

Despite the challenges she is facing, Williams remains hopeful for the future and plans to get an apartment after her guardianship ends. She has expressed her desire to keep her famous purple chair from “The Wendy Williams Show” in her new place.
