A man in Memphis sustained a gunshot wound when his dog accidentally fired a gun by jumping on a bed, according to the Memphis Police Department. The incident occurred in the Frayser neighborhood just before 4 a.m. The man was lying on his bed with a friend when his dog, a pit bull puppy named Oreo, jumped onto the bed and its paw got stuck in the gun’s trigger guard. The gun went off and the man was grazed in his left thigh. The man’s friend left the home with the gun after the incident. The victim was taken to the hospital in noncritical condition. Shell casings were found on the floor of the front room. Tennessee does not have state laws requiring firearm owners to lock or store their weapons in a certain way, but the Memphis Police Department encourages gun owners to keep their weapons locked and offers free gun locks at precincts.
