A man fell approximately 20 feet from a ski lift at Attitash Mountain Resort in Bartlett, New Hampshire, after his chair detached. The incident occurred on Sunday at around 12:15 p.m., resulting in non-life-threatening injuries for the man who remained conscious. The state fire marshal’s office stated that a mechanical failure caused the chair to dislodge from the cable. The Flying Bear lift has been closed while investigations by the marshal’s office and the Passenger Tramway Safety Board are ongoing.
Fortunately, no other individuals were harmed, and all other passengers on the lift were safely unloaded at the top. Vail Resorts, the Colorado-based owner of Attitash, affirmed that daily lift inspections are conducted at the resort. Witnesses, including skier David Gunzburger, expressed shock and concern over the incident.
Gunzburger recounted seeing ski patrol assisting the injured man, who was on a backboard and wearing a neck brace. The news of the ski lift malfunction has left many in the skiing community uneasy and eager to learn more about the investigation’s findings.
