The European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) has released a new report combining Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and secure Satellite Communications (SATCOM) user technology. The report highlights innovations in GNSS, such as multiple frequencies, advanced receiver designs, and security features like Europe’s Galileo has and OSNMA. It also discusses secure SATCOM trends like digitalization, AI integration, 5G connectivity, and NGSO constellations to reduce latency.
Security measures against spoofing and jamming, as well as the evolution of user terminals towards software-based architectures for reliability and flexibility, are also covered. The report emphasizes the importance of confidentiality, integrity, and availability in maintaining service security against potential threats.
An Editor’s Special section explores potential overlaps between GNSS, secure SATCOM, and Earth Observation, showcasing how these technologies can be integrated for applications like relaying Earth Observation data through SATCOM and supporting precision positioning in remote areas.
EUSPA’s Executive Director, Rodrigo da Costa, believes that this comprehensive report will inspire further innovation and collaboration in the space technology sector. The GNSS and Secure SATCOM User Technology Report is available for download on the EUSPA website, providing valuable insights into the latest developments in these key space-based capabilities.
