New Hampshire Farmers Encouraged to Apply for Climate Resilience Grants
New Hampshire farmers have until Sunday, November 17, to apply for valuable grants offered by the state chapter of the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA-NH), aimed at bolstering resilience against climate change. These grants, part of an ongoing initiative, are designed to assist farmers in a variety of ways, including purchasing essential supplies and equipment, conducting soil tests, and implementing insect prevention strategies.
Additionally, the funds can help offset costs associated with organic certification and provide disaster relief support for damages caused by flooding, fire, and freezing weather, which have recently impacted local agriculture. This program is a continuation of the farm relief fund established by NOFA-NH in 2023, following severe crop losses due to adverse weather conditions.
While any farmer in New Hampshire can apply for disaster relief, eligibility for other grants is limited primarily to organic farmers and those transitioning to organic practices. Each applicant can seek funding for multiple projects, with grant amounts available up to $3,000.
Interested farmers can find the application process detailed on the NOFA-NH website at https://www.nofanh.org/funds. Grant distributions are anticipated by December 20. As climate challenges increase, these grants represent a crucial support mechanism for New Hampshire’s agricultural sector, ensuring that farmers can adapt and thrive in changing environmental conditions.
