Press Release: Red Flag Warning Issued for Southern New Hampshire
MANCHESTER, N.H. — The National Weather Service has issued an unprecedented red flag warning for a significant portion of southern New Hampshire, effective Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. This warning covers the Lakes Region and areas south, while only the coastal region remains outside of the warning zone. However, elevated fire dangers persist even there.
Forecasters expect dry conditions paired with gusty winds, significantly raising the risk of brush fires. Recent incidents include crews battling fires in Loudon and South Hampton on Thursday, alongside a larger fire in Mason earlier this week. “I have been forecasting weather here for quite some time, and I’ve never witnessed a red flag warning in November in New Hampshire,” noted Chief Meteorologist Mike Haddad.
The National Weather Service warns of rapid fire growth potential on Friday afternoon, driven by forecasted wind gusts reaching up to 30 mph, combined with low humidity levels and a lingering drought. These factors create a critical environment where any fire that ignites could spread quickly, leading to further risks.
Officials advise against outdoor burning during this time. Residents are encouraged to avoid activities that could start a fire due to the heightened danger. As this warning is considered rare for November in New Hampshire, local authorities are urging caution and preparedness among the community.
For detailed forecasts and safety tips, monitor local updates from the National Weather Service and local news outlets. Stay safe, and take the necessary precautions to prevent wildfires.
