A California man, Vincent Mendillo, is facing charges of negligent homicide, reckless conduct, aggravated DWI, and second-degree assault in connection with a fatal crash that occurred earlier this month in New Hampshire. The crash resulted in the death of Mendillo’s passenger, Salma Garcia, also from California. Mendillo was held on $25,000 bail following his arraignment in Newport District Court.
According to state police, the crash occurred on October 6 when Mendillo’s vehicle, a 2024 Hyundai Elantra, crashed into a parked utility trailer in New London, New Hampshire. Garcia died at the scene, while Mendillo was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment.
An initial investigation revealed that Mendillo failed to negotiate a curve in the road, causing the vehicle to veer off and collide with the utility trailer before catching on fire. State troopers and the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office are currently investigating the incident, and anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Sgt. Brian Ross.
The case is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the consequences of negligent and reckless driving.
