46 individuals hospitalized in Maryland due to food poisoning after consuming meal made by coworker

Forty-six adults were hospitalized in Maryland after sharing a noodle dish at their workplace, resulting in a foodborne illness outbreak. The incident occurred at NAFCO Wholesale Seafood Distributors in Jessup, Maryland, about 15 miles southwest of Baltimore. The workers became ill roughly an hour after eating the outside food prepared by an employee. The Howard County Health Department is working with the Maryland Department of Health to investigate the exact cause of the outbreak. All 46 individuals were evaluated and taken to different area hospitals, but none were in critical condition. The health department is now gathering more specific details about the food in question from those affected. Despite the incident, there is believed to be little risk to the larger community and no further illnesses have been reported. The parent company of NAFCO, Stanley Pearlman Enterprises, stated that the food responsible for the illness did not come from the facility and that they operate under high health and safety standards. All individuals hospitalized have been released, and there is no current risk of further illnesses connected to the outbreak according to the Maryland Health Department. Marlene Lenthang and Janelle Griffith contributed to this report.
