An 8-year-old girl in Colorado fought back against an intruder wearing a clown mask who tried to kidnap her during a late-night break-in at her family’s home. The suspect, Thomas Gallegos, was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnapping, assault, child abuse, and burglary. He had helped the girl’s family with a washer and dryer installation two days prior. The assailant entered the girl’s room, blindfolded her, and hit her in the head, leaving her unconscious. The girl managed to alert her mother after regaining consciousness. She suffered a contusion to her eye and a head laceration that required staples. A clown mask and gloves were found in the girl’s room, leading investigators to identify Gallegos as the suspect through surveillance video and location data on the victim’s phone. During an interview with the police, Gallegos denied the allegations and refused to speak further. His wife confirmed his presence near the victim’s home at the time of the break-in based on surveillance footage showing him with a clown mask belonging to their grandson. Gallegos has not yet obtained legal representation. The investigation is ongoing.
