House Democrat criticizes Trump’s campaign for failing to pledge a seamless transition by not cooperating with administration

Rep. Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, has raised concerns over former President Donald Trump’s failure to enter into key agreements with the Biden administration for the presidential transition process. Raskin warned that this could endanger the peaceful transfer of power and threaten U.S. national security. Trump and his vice presidential nominee, Sen. JD Vance, have not accepted resources provided by the federal government for a smooth transition, which is unprecedented since 2010.

The General Services Administration agreement, missed by the Trump campaign, provides access to office space, equipment, staff assistance, and national security information. Trump and Vance have also not disclosed privately raised funds for the transition, potentially skirting fundraising rules designed to prevent conflicts of interest in the incoming administration. Raskin urged them to sign the agreements expeditiously and submit an ethics plan.

Raskin highlighted the potential vulnerabilities that come with the transfer of power between administrations, emphasizing the need for a peaceful transition. He pointed out that Trump’s recent comments, including his refusal to commit to a peaceful transfer of power and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, exacerbate concerns about the transition process.-Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021, when his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, are also a cause for alarm. Raskin called for immediate action to ensure a smooth transition for the Biden administration and to uphold democratic norms.
