Blinken informs Israel that their current efforts to provide aid in Gaza are falling short.

Israeli leaders assured Secretary of State Antony Blinken that it is not their policy to isolate northern Gaza, despite the United Nations reporting that requests for humanitarian assistance to the area continue to be denied. Blinken emphasized the importance of increasing aid to Gaza during his discussions with Israeli officials, and Israeli leaders recognized the U.S.’s level of concern on the issue.

In response to a letter from Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Israel outlined the actions taken to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza, but the U.S. deemed them insufficient. While some progress has been seen, more action is needed within the 30-day deadline set by the Biden administration.

Israel mentioned that they are committed to taking concrete actions as outlined in the letter and are focused on achieving results. The readout from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office did not mention humanitarian assistance, but it was stated that Israel is doing everything it can to meet the expectations set by the U.S.

In terms of recent developments, 114 trucks crossed into Gaza, but it is unclear how much assistance reached the population. The U.N. has been trying to deliver life-saving supplies to hospitals and water facilities in Gaza, but their efforts have been continuously denied. The U.S. is closely monitoring the situation and expects Israel to take more sustained action in providing assistance to Gaza within the given timeframe.
