A helicopter crash in Houston resulted in the death of all four people on board, including a child, on Sunday evening. The aircraft, a Robinson R44, struck a radio tower while on an air tour flight. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident but has not released the names or ages of the victims. The wreckage is described as a “complex scene” and officials are taking a meticulous approach to the investigation. The helicopter had taken off from Ellington Airport in Houston before the crash occurred. The tower that was struck is known as a “guyed tower”, which has cables attached to the ground. The tower was recently acquired by communications company SBA Communications, and a warning notice had been issued to pilots. The crash resulted in the collapse of the tower and debris covering approximately 4 acres of land. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries to anyone on the ground, although some vehicles were damaged. Authorities expressed gratitude that the incident did not result in more casualties, describing it as a “horrible tragedy” that could have been much worse.
