A new report by a House task force investigating an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally on July 13 criticizes the Secret Service for a lack of planning and coordination with local law enforcement. The report indicates that there were missed opportunities for law enforcement to engage the shooter before he fired shots at the rally, killing one person and injuring three others. The report highlights fragmented communication lines and delays in relaying information about the shooter to the Secret Service command post. The task force also found a lack of coordination among law enforcement agencies on the day of the rally, with the Secret Service not participating in briefings held by local law enforcement. The report is based on 23 interviews with local law enforcement, thousands of pages of documents, and testimony from a public hearing in September. The task force is still conducting interviews of federal officials and others to gather more information about the events of that day. The panel is also investigating an alleged assassination attempt against Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on September 15 and has requested information from the Secret Service, FBI, and ATF. The Secret Service has not yet responded to the report.
