Tour Guide Identified as Man Killed in Colorado Mine Accident

Patrick Weier, a 46-year-old father and tour guide at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine in Colorado, died in a tragic elevator accident. The incident occurred when the elevator was about 500 feet down the 1,000-foot deep shaft at the mine near Cripple Creek. Weier had a 7-year-old son and lived in a nearby community. The circumstances of his death are still under investigation, with officials focusing on a potential mechanical issue rather than a medical episode. The elevator was on its descent when the accident happened, but there is no camera in the elevator to provide details of what occurred. The mine, which passed safety inspections, closed temporarily after the incident. Weier was one of 11 people on the elevator at the time, and a total of 24 people were in the mine during the accident. Governor Jared Polis and the White House offered condolences to Weier’s family and the community in the aftermath of the tragedy. Teller County Commissioner Dan Williams emphasized the importance of mourning in the wake of the incident.
