A man went on a stealing spree through Maine and New Hampshire, making off with a car, two pickups, and a dump truck, according to police reports. The thefts occurred on Wednesday, with the man allegedly stealing a Chevrolet Cobalt in Sanford, Maine, before moving on to take pickup trucks from contractors working in North Berwick and Lebanon. The suspect reportedly used the dump truck to help steal the second pickup.
The thefts sparked a multi-state search for the suspect, which eventually led to his apprehension in New Hampshire. He was arrested without incident in Hudson, New Hampshire, by the local police department.
Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity or any potential motives for the thefts. It is also unclear whether the suspect will face charges in both Maine and New Hampshire for the string of thefts.
Residents in the affected communities have expressed relief at the suspect’s arrest, as well as concern over the brazen nature of the thefts. Police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
The stolen vehicles have since been recovered and returned to their owners, who are grateful for the swift action taken by law enforcement to resolve the situation. The suspect remains in custody pending further investigation, and authorities are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses to fully understand the extent of his crime spree.
