Thirteen people were killed in Damascus in an air attack on Tuesday, which Syrian officials blamed on Israel. Israel has admitted to carrying out hundreds of raids on targets in Syria over the past year. These attacks have largely gone unnoticed due to ongoing conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank, and Yemen.
Since October 2023, Israel has bombed Syria over 220 times, resulting in the deaths of at least 296 people. The attacks have targeted weapons depots, vehicles, and Iran-backed groups’ headquarters. In April, Israeli fighter jets hit the Iranian consular building in Damascus, killing seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Syria has denounced the attacks, and some rockets have been fired at Israel from Syrian territory. Despite international condemnation, Israel continues to violate Syria’s sovereignty by targeting Iranian-linked sites.
These attacks are part of a long-standing pattern of Israeli aggression towards Syria, dating back decades. The international community, including Arab countries, Russia, and China, has condemned Israel’s actions. Israel justifies its attacks based on perceived threats from Iran and its allies in the region.
The conflict between Syria and Israel has escalated in recent years, with the latest surge in attacks occurring after October 2023. The situation remains volatile, with Israel showing no signs of halting its military operations in Syria.
