A hydrogen sulfide leak at a Pemex facility in Deer Park, Texas resulted in the deaths of two people and the treatment of over two dozen others on Thursday evening. Workers were reportedly working on a flange when the leak occurred. A shelter-in-place order was issued for nearby residents as a precaution, but was lifted after air monitoring reports found no hazardous pollutants. Pemex Deer Park stated that the incident was contained to their site and isolated, with no offsite impacts detected. The facility is co-located at a Shell refinery site, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is aware of the incident. Houston, known as the petrochemical heartland of the country, is home to numerous refineries and plants. Television news crews captured footage of multiple ambulances and emergency vehicles at the scene. The situation is being closely monitored to ensure the safety of the community and prevent further impacts.
