A pilot died in a mid-air collision between two single-engine planes, a Nanchang CJ-6 and a Yakovlev Yak-52, near Lancaster, California. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. PT on Sunday, with only the two pilots on board. One pilot was pronounced dead on arrival by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, while the other reported no injuries. The planes, both used for aerobatics and hobby flights, landed in separate locations in Lancaster. The Yak-52 is a Soviet-era plane owned by Fight’s On! LLC, and the Nanchang CJ-6 is a Chinese military aircraft from the 1960s. The cause of the collision is unknown, and investigations will be conducted by the FAA and NTSB.
