India Defeats Bangladesh by 280 Runs in First Test Match in Chennai to Secure Victory

Hometown hero Ravichandran Ashwin led India to a comprehensive 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the opening Test match in Chennai. After scoring a century in the first innings, Ashwin took six wickets in the second innings to dismantle the Bangladesh batting line-up, with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto offering some resistance with 82 runs. Ashwin was named player of the match for his all-round performance on his home ground.

In addition to Ashwin’s heroics, his spin-bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja claimed three wickets on the final day, while Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant scored centuries in India’s first innings. Virat Kohli, playing his first Test match since becoming a father for the second time, had a quiet game with the bat.

Bangladesh, fresh from a series win in Pakistan, succumbed to India’s strong bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah. The two teams will now head to Kanpur for the second Test match in the series. India, aiming to extend their lead in the World Test Championship rankings, will look to continue their dominance over Bangladesh, who have never beaten them in Tests. This victory marks a strong start to the new Test season for India, who are looking to maintain their position at the top of international cricket.
