Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has once again made controversial comments about the potential impact of Democratic victory on Israel. Speaking at the Israeli-American Council National Summit in Washington, DC, Trump suggested that if he loses the election, Israel could cease to exist within two years, partially blaming Jewish-American voters for potentially voting for the Democratic Party. Trump claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris was polling at 60 percent among American Jews, lamenting his own lagging support in this demographic.
At a subsequent event focusing on denouncing anti-Semitism, Trump reiterated his close ties with Israel and pledged to be the best friend Jewish Americans have ever had in the White House if they would vote for him. While Jewish voters have historically leaned towards Democrats, Trump’s campaign has made winning over Jewish voters in key battleground states, such as Pennsylvania, a priority.
However, Trump’s comments come amidst criticism for associating with anti-Semites, with his opponent, Harris, pointing out his ties to individuals with such views. Additionally, Trump failed to address a recent report about a Republican gubernatorial candidate in North Carolina, Mark Robinson, who made controversial statements in the past. Despite these issues, the Trump campaign continues to prioritize winning over voters in battleground states to secure victory in November.
