Harvey Weinstein denies new sexual assault charge in court appearance

Disgraced former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has pleaded not guilty to a new sexual assault charge related to an incident in a Manhattan hotel in 2006. The 72-year-old entered his plea in court on Wednesday. Prosecutors have accused Weinstein of sexually assaulting a woman during a one-week period, but have not released details about the accuser. Weinstein’s lawyer says his client has no knowledge of the allegations and plans to investigate further.

The accuser’s lawyer has stated that she is prepared to testify at trial to hold Weinstein accountable. Weinstein, who maintains his innocence, was previously convicted of rape and sexual assault charges in 2020 and sentenced to 23 years in prison. However, that conviction was overturned in April due to concerns about the fairness of the trial. Women’s rights activists have criticized the decision, saying it could discourage other victims from coming forward.

Weinstein, who is recovering from heart surgery, appeared in court in a wheelchair to face the new charge as well as two others from a separate indictment. He pleaded not guilty to all accusations. The former producer’s legal troubles continue to unfold as he faces renewed scrutiny over his past actions and allegations of sexual misconduct.
