The Conservative politician John Selwyn Gummer, also known as Baron Deben, was interviewed by former Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson on Times Radio about his friend Mike Lynch. Gummer expressed his joy for Lynch’s acquittal on fraud charges in the US and criticized what he called “trumped-up charges” that had led to Lynch’s extradition. Gummer mentioned Lynch’s plans to campaign against unfair rules that had caused him to face trial in the US.
Gummer praised Lynch’s knowledge and contribution to the community, describing him as a valuable member of society. He also paid tribute to Lynch’s family for their support during his court case. Lynch’s daughter, Hannah Lynch, is among the six people currently missing after a yacht sank off the coast of Sicily.
Rescue teams have been struggling to reach inside the yacht to search for survivors, including Lynch and his daughter. Divers resumed their search this morning, and coast guard rescue vessels were seen leaving Porticello to head for the site of the incident. The missing individuals also include Jonathan Bloomer, a non-executive director at Lynch’s company Autonomy, along with other passengers and crew members. Gummer mentioned that Lynch had planned a holiday to show his gratitude to those who had supported him.
