Taylor Swift superfan from New Hampshire, John Smith, made headlines last week when he decided to skip Swift’s highly anticipated Eras Tour in London to attend the Democratic National Convention in Chicago instead. Smith, a self-proclaimed “Swiftie,” had been looking forward to seeing his favorite artist perform live for months.
Despite his excitement for the Eras Tour, Smith felt that attending the DNC was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that he couldn’t pass up. As a political science major, Smith believed that being able to witness the convention firsthand and be surrounded by like-minded individuals was an experience that would be more meaningful to him in the long run.
“I love Taylor Swift, but this was something that I felt I needed to do,” Smith explained. “I’ve been following politics for years, and being able to attend the DNC was a dream come true for me.”
While Smith’s decision to skip the concert may have disappointed some of his fellow Swifties, he received overwhelming support on social media for following his passion for politics. Many fans commended Smith for staying true to himself and not letting his fandom overshadow his other interests.
As for missing out on the Eras Tour, Smith remains hopeful that he will have another opportunity to see Taylor Swift live in concert in the future. In the meantime, he is grateful for the unforgettable experience he had at the DNC and looks forward to continuing to pursue his passion for politics.
