The 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games have come to a close with an iconic indie rock band, Phoenix, kicking off the farewell to the athletes. The band performed “Lisztomania” and “If I Ever Feel Better” in a celebration of French artists and their influence on music. Kavinsky and Air also performed during the ceremony, showcasing French electronic and house music. Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend joined Phoenix on stage as well. Los Angeles native Snoop Dogg, a major figure in this year’s Games, will be involved in the host city handover between Paris and Los Angeles, which will host the Olympics in 2028. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo will hand over the Olympic flag to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to symbolize the transition. R&B artist H.E.R. from California is expected to perform the U.S. national anthem, while other Los Angeles-based artists including Billie Eilish and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will also be part of the ceremony. The closing ceremony celebrated French artistry and music, marking the end of another successful Olympic Games.
