Texas CrossFit athlete passes away while competing in swimming event

A competitor in the 2024 CrossFit Games died during a swimming event in Texas, leading to the suspension of the day’s events. The victim was identified as Lazar Dukic, 28, of Serbia, and the cause of death has not been confirmed. The Fort Worth Fire Department recovered the body from Marine Creek Lake after a search-and-rescue operation. Fort Worth mayor Mattie Parker expressed sadness and offered grief counseling services to those affected by the tragic loss. The CrossFit Games, which prides itself on determining the “Fittest on Earth,” stated they are cooperating with authorities and supporting the victim’s family. The event began on Thursday and is scheduled to end on Sunday at Dickies Arena.
