A former New Hampshire teacher is suing the Department of Education after losing her license for allegedly taking an 18-year-old student to an abortion appointment. The teacher, who remains unnamed, claims that the department did not follow the proper process when revoking her license, as she received a letter without a chance to argue her case. The lawsuit alleges that the department’s investigation was biased, and the student in question was an adult, so the state’s law regarding minors seeking abortion care did not apply.
According to the teacher’s attorney, due process was not followed in revoking the license, and an impartial investigation was not conducted. The Department of Education’s commissioner, Frank Edelblut, was criticized for misleading comments regarding the situation. The lawsuit also highlighted the need for proper procedures before depriving someone of their rights.
The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office is reviewing the complaint, while the Department of Education referred inquiries to the attorney general’s office. A pre-hearing conference has been scheduled for July 16. The case brings attention to the importance of following due process in such situations and ensuring that individuals are given a fair chance to defend themselves before any actions are taken against them.
