Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico is discharged from the hospital

Slovakia’s Prime Minister, Robert Fico, has been released from the hospital following an assassination attempt. Fico was shot in the abdomen while greeting supporters in May and underwent multiple surgeries to treat his wounds. The suspect, charged with attempted murder, remains in custody. Government officials initially believed it was a politically motivated attack by a lone wolf, but now suggest a third party may have been involved. Fico’s government has faced criticism for attempting to exert more control over public broadcasting and amending the penal code to eliminate an anti-graft prosecutor. Critics fear these actions could lead to a more autocratic regime in Slovakia. Fico continues to recover at home in Bratislava.
